April 28 marks the election date for the Vashon Park District Maintenance and Operations levy, the primary source of operating revenue to the district, for the years 2016 – 2019. The past six-year levy is expiring at the end of 2015. Vashon voters are presented with the same levy rate of 50 cents per $1,000 of assessed property values, which translates to $150 per year for a property assessed at $300,000 in value. This is not a new levy but simply a replacement and has historically received widespread support from Vashon voters. The Park District does not receive any money from King County or the State to pay district staff, operate our programs, or maintain our parks. The taxes generated by this levy are used 100% on Vashon Island for the majority of park services. Ballots for the Maintenance and Operations levy will be mailed to Vashon voters on April 8 and must be postmarked no later than April 28, 2015. Please contact Elaine Ott, Executive Director, directly if you have any questions about this levy renewal at 206-463-9602 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
