A community the size of Vashon has many unique opportunities: a rural feel with the city close at hand; an abundance of outdoor recreational activities and spaces; and a relaxed and relaxing lifestyle. What we don’t have is a surplus of public buildings for community use. Over the years, an agreement has evolved between the Vashon Island School District and Vashon Park District to take advantage of the ample space the three schools offer to the public... Chautauqua Elementary, McMurray Middle School, and Vashon High School, together with their grounds and fields, are known as the Vashon Commons.
During non-school hours, VPD makes the Vashon Commons available to the community and the many groups therein as part of the Interlocal Agreement, first reached in 1987.
